Microrégion de Criciúma

The microrégion of Criciúma is one of the three microrégion S which subdivides the Southern area of the State of Santa Catarina with the Brésil.

It comprises ten municipality S which gathered: 359334 inhabitants in 2006 for an total surface area of: 2089 km ².

The municipalities of the microrégion were colonized by Italian immigrants and preserve many traditions of Italian origin, in particular in architecture, the kitchen and the culture of the Vigne.

The economy of the area is characterized by the intense exploitation of the local resources in coal.
