The word microlithe is composed of the Greek Micros and Lithos , and means small stone.
It has several scientific meanings:
In geology, the term microlithe is written also microlite and indicates the microscopic crystals of the rocks, often in the shape of sticks, in opposition to the phenocrysts. One often finds them in the magmatic rocks, like the Basalte.
The combination of phenocrysts, microlithes and glass is characteristic of the volcanic rocks, and is called microlitic structure.
The word microlithe is the term to indicate the arrowheads Mesolithic S low-size (length lower than 40 mm and thickness lower than 4 mm). These objects can present a geometrical form (triangle, segment, trapezoid…). The microlithes could be gone up to several on the same pole to constitute the arrow.
