Mickey Spillane

Mickey Spillane (born Frank Morrison Spillane the March 9th 1918 with Brooklyn, New York - July 17th 2006 in South Carolina), is a American writer of detective novels. He is especially known for his series Mike Hammer .

Biography

Born with Brooklyn, he saw his childhood in a hard district of Elizabeth, New Jersey.

He begins his career of writer while rédigant for the account of magazines of mode. Extremely on some successes, it is decided to write for pulp S and Comic S . Paid 12 USD per block, it produces to 50 blocks per day. During the Second world war, it involves pilot S of hunting and transports soldiers on behalf of the US Air Force.

After the war, it starts again to write comics . It makes also numbers of Cirque on Trampoline on behalf of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus . It also takes part in an investigation into drug traffickers, which is worth a wound by ball and a stab to him.

Its first novel-police officer is entitled I, the Jury (1946). He writes this book in a tent, whereas he builds his first house. I, the Jury introduces hard to cook, the detective Mike Hammer. Violence and the sex are omnipresent than in the novels of the same kind of this time.

Several of the novels of the series Mike Hammer are adapted for the cinema, of which KIS Me Deadly (1955) and The Girl Hunters (1963, Spillane plays the part of Mike Hammer). Also, the Téléroman Mike Hammer is diffused in the United States during the years 1980.

In 1972, it publishes a book, The Erection Set , where his second wife, the Mannequin Sherri Malinou poses naked for the cover page. This book is dedicated to him.

Spillane also made appearances in a series of publicities to praise the merits of a beer, the Miller Lite , and putting in the high-speed motorboat a hard man.

He died on July 17th, 2006 at his place in South Carolina of the Cancer.

At one time, it is one of the authors most sold in the United States, with the seven titles among 10 best sold in the United States during the 20th century.

Critical of its work

The literary critics hate its books, quoting the sex and violence. Spillane retorted while affirming:
