Mickey Mantle

Mickey Charles Mantle (October 20th 1931 - August 13rd, 1995) was a professional player of baseball. It is better known for its performance in 1961 when it threatened the record of 60 blows of circuit, established by Babe Ruth. It finished with 536 blows of circuit in 18 seasons.

Career

Mantle played all its career with the Yankees of New York. In 1956, it gains the triple crown - i.e. it carried out the league in blows of circuit (52), produced points (130) and with the average with the stick (0,353). It is better known for the continuation of the record of Babe Ruth in 1961, when it struck 54 blows of circuit. It has to be inclined in front of Maris after it was wounded towards the end of the season, it finished with 54 circuits in 153 parts. In fact it was Roger Maris which could beat the record and which gained MVP.

With the Yankees, Mantle made 12 appearances in the World Series, and gained 7 of them. It established the current records for the blows of circuit (18) produced points (40) marked points (42) and automatic bases (43). Especially in 273 presences with the stick (almost the one regular season half) it struck an average 0,257.

Its 536 blows of circuit were the 3rd best total of circuits at the time of its retirement, but it from now on is classified 13th, but first among the ambidextrous strikers, Eddie Murray being second with 504 circuits. He was elected with the Temple of re-elected baseball in 1974 with 88% of the votes, his first year of eligibility. He is among the 8 players having been the best player of the major Leagues at least three times.
