Michigan State Spartans is a club general sports university of the Université of the State of Michigan. The teams of Spartans take part in the university competitions organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Michigan State belongs to division Big Ten Conference.
The most famous team of Spartans is that of American football which was created in 1884. The team evolves/moves with the Spartan Stadium, enclosure of 75.005 places inaugurated in 1929. This stage is in the center of the campus. The number of national titles gained by the team varies from one to four according to the sources (see Championnat NCAA of American football).
In addition to American football, the team of Basket-ball is also important. She counts two national titles (1979 and 2000). Spartans dispute their home matches with the Breslin Student Events Center, room of 14.992 places inaugurated the November 9th 1989. Magic Johnson was Spartan for its university period and a statue of the champion decorates the campus ( photo below ).
The team of hockey evolves/moves with the Munn Ice Arena, skating rink of 6470 places inaugurated on November 1st 1974. The strong competition with the Michigan Wolverines is valid in hockey as in all the other fields, sportsmen or not. At the time of a match of hockey opposing these two rivals, a provisional skating rink was installed in the center of the American football stadium, thus making it possible 74.554 spectators to assist with the match the October 6th 2001.
