Michelle Demessine
Michelle Demessine (born the June 18th 1947) is a woman French Politique , it was Secretary of State to Tourism under the government Jospin.
Currently, Michelle Demessine is sénatrice Northern ; she is also associated with the Mayor of Lille.
Biography
Youth
Married and mother of a child, it enters the very young working life and occupies a post of secretary in a house building entreprise. Engaged syndicalement, Michelle Demessine takes part in the great strikes of 1968 and animates this movement in her company. With the Agreements of Grenelle, she sees her wages doubling! Year 68 will remain the year of the political awakening.
A woman engaged for the women
She becomes member of the French Communist party in 1970. She engages for defense of paid and militates in the work world. She takes an active part in the actions for the respect and the development of the women's right. She will furrow the department of North, meeting thousands of women, wages-earner, mothers, animating with them many combat. She chairs the departmental committee of the Union of the French Women of 1976 to 1990. In 1992, it will conduct a campaign against drug, taking along several thousands people to express with Amsterdam. It also engages for dignity and the citizenship of the people in situation of handicap.
Militant of ground in the leading authorities of the Communist party
Member of the National council since 1997 and the Managerial college (Political office) of PCF until March 2006, date of the last congress of the Party, Michelle Demessine is a leading main road of PCF. At the same time as she assumes this political commitment, she becomes member of the executive commission of the Departmental union of the CGT (1973), then member of the Economic and Social Council of the Nord/Pas-de-Calais Area (1983-1995). She will be elected Municipal adviser of Houplines of 1995 to 2001.
National mandates
In 1992, Michelle Demessine is elected Sénatrice of North. She leaves this function after to be named Secretary of State to Tourism in 1997. From 1997 to 2001, with the Ministry for Tourism of the first world tourist destination, it starts again tourism social and associative and plain the whole of the actors of tourism around a new policy, supporting the development of respectful tourism of the men and territories. It engages a step of improvement of, work and the housing living conditions of the seasonal employees of tourism. The label Tourism and Handicap which it created to facilitate the departures of the handicapped people, is today a tool of reference for the professionals and the users. It leaves the Government after to be re-elected Sénatrice of North.
In March 2001, she is elected Adjointe with the Mayor of Lille, in load of the Sport and Vice-Présidente of Lille Métropole Urban community (LMCU) in charge with sports equipment and the policy of the high level sport. In November 2005, it is named president of the Commission Great Stage of the urban community.
With the Senate and within the framework of her political activity, Michelle DEMESSINE engages near the employees threatened by social plans and delocalizations. She asks for the revival of a new industrial policy making it possible to stop the hemorrhage of employment in our country and the Nord/Pas-de-Calais Area area. She also sticks particularly to defend the related questions with the respect of the dignity of the handicapped people, those related to the right to housing, social protection. She also acts at the sides of the victims of asbestos. A bill, on this subject is being prepared. In the Metropolis inhabitant of Lille, in particular through her local mandates, it develops a sporting policy, as well in direction of the clubs amateurs as of the high level clubs.
