Michel de Grandmont or of Grammont (1645 with Paris - April 1686, disappeared at sea in the North-East from the islands the Caribbean). Its career of Corsair and then of Flibustier extended from 1670 with 1686. It sailed on board the boat Bold the .

Biography

Before becoming corsair, Michel de Grandmont is the son of a gentleman officer of the guards. Whereas it is old only fourteen years, it kills in duel an officer in love with his sister. Decree, it is condemned and constrained to engage in the school of foams and then becomes junior with the royal Regiment by the vessels.

Its intrepidity and its ascending naturalness are quickly noticed and it very quickly takes the command of a ship engaged against the Spanish fleet operating off the islands of the Tortue and Saint-Domingue.

When the France enters in conflict with the Netherlands in 1678, it takes part in raids on the Dutch island of Curaçao, and takes the command of the fleet of the Corsaire S of King de France operating in the area.

In June 1678, it engages six ships and 700 men against the Spanish territories of the Venezuela and penetrates inside the grounds to the locality of Trujillo. This exploit is followed by another victorious raid in the port Venezuelan of Guaira, which it seizes during a daring night attack. The corsair, too trustful, escapes from very little and with difficulty from important Spanish forces come from the help from the city.

In 1679, they are the towns of Toulha in Brazil, Puerto Cabello and Vera Cruz in Mexico which falls successively between its hands. While in 1680, it is with the turn of Cumaná in Venezuela to succumb.

In May 1683, with the Dutch flibustier Laurens de Graaf, it seizes again Vera Cruz. They plunder the city and make 4  000 prisoners in order to exchange them against ransom.

In 1685, the two men renew their raids against the Mexican city of Campeche.

These exploits are worth to him to be appointed lieutenant of the southern part of the island of Santo Domingo by the King de France. He will never occupy however this station, because he at sea makes a last race before the arrival of his patent and disappears during this last mission in April 1685.
