Michel V
Michel V the Caulker (1015 - August 24th 1042) was Byzantine emperor December 10th 1041 with the August 24th 1042.
Nephew of Michel IV, wire of Etienne Calaphatès, it is adopted by the empress Zoe. With died with Michel IV, Zoe associates it with the throne, but it tries shortly after to reverse it.
Deeply reforming, scorned because of its popular origins, Michel V removed all the privileges of the aristocracy of the Court and granted more freedom to the people, which increased its popularity.
It also engaged a fundamental reform of the administration.
The April 18th 1042, it made stop Zoe and attempt at regicide showed it: this event revolted the Byzantines, attaches with the dynasty Macedonian and their Empress, of imperial blood. The April 20th, Michel V and his uncle Constantin took refuge in a monastery of Studium, where Michel renonça with the throne. Crowd pursued there and they were stopped and plugged.
