Michel Ragon is a writer of French language born with Marseilles in 1924.

Born in a country family from Vendean origin, it arrives at Nantes at 14 years when it starts to work like boy of races. The work of his/her mother, guardian of one apartment to the very rich library, offers the occasion to him to plunge in the universe of the reading.

Thanks to writers as Henry Poulaille it discovers that the exercise of the literature is not reserved for the Bourgeoisie. While arriving at Paris, it meets this author with whom it maintained a correspondence. He also collaborates with artists of the group Cobra (Jorn, Dotremont, Atlan, Alechinsky…). Rather directed on the libertarian way as of its twentieth year, it meets the proletarian writers then and becomes historian of the proletarian Littérature by publishing its first book: Writers of the people that it will work over again on several occasions and which will become in 1974 Histoire of the proletarian literature of French language .

Parallel to his literary work, Michel Ragon one is also considered critical and historian of art and the modern architecture. He becomes lecturer for the Ministry for Foreign Affairs thanks to Malraux then professor with the École of decorative Arts. On his impetus, the libertarian autodidact takes down a doctorate of State to the beginning of the year 1970.

Former worker manual it is in Autodidacte that he becomes doctor d' arts État, around fifty passed, then he teaches as a professor of higher education. Ragon is accurately dependant on the Vendée and its family Libertaire (since 1962 it is friendly of Louis Lecoin, later of Maurice Joyeux, but also André Breton, Felix Fénéon, Jean Dubuffet, Noam Chomsky, John Cage, Daniel Cohn-Bendit, Georges Brassens, Léo Ferré, Albert Camus…).

In the years 1980, it starts to write novels with great successes which constitute the Vendean Suite : red Handkerchiefs of Cholet , the she-wolf of Mervent , the Sailor of Sands , the accent of my mother , the Coachman of Boiroux

He sponsors the Salon of the popular book of expression and of social criticism of Arras and he is honorary president of the Company Octave Mirbeau.
