Michel Portal is a type-setter and musician French, born the November 25th 1935 with Bayonne (France).

Particularly eclectic, its field of predilection is to be saxophonist, clarinettist of Jazz, but it is also interprets of Classical music: Mozart, Brahms, Berg, Swell, Stockhausen, Berio, Kagel… and type-setter, in particular of original soundtracks of films and Téléfilm S. the album Cinema' S gathers some of his compositions.

Michel Portal begins her career in the Classical music before directing himself towards the Jazz. It is at the origin with some others of the Free movement in France. It creates the " Michel Portal Unit" who accommodates the European and American musicians privileging the free improvisation. Its music jouissive, vehement, lyric, inventive, interrogative is a perpetual questioning of human and structures.

It obtains the first following prices:

  • Conservatory Higher National of Music of Paris in 1959
  • international Contest of Geneva and the Swiss Jubilee in 1963
  • National Grand Prix of the Music in 1983

He frequently plays with the Accordéon ist Richard Galliano, the beater Daniel Humair or the double bass player Henri Texier.
