Michel Pastoureau

Michel Pastoureau is a Historien Médiéviste French, born on June 17th 1947 with Paris.

It made its studies with the École of the charters and its thesis (1972) related to the Bestiaire Héraldique to the Moyen-âge. It is Historien, Archiviste paleographer and director of studies to the practical École of the high studies (4th section), installed with the Sorbonne, where it occupies since 1983 the Chaire of history of the Western symbolic system. It published forty dedicated works to the history of the colors, animals and symbols. Its first work concerned the history of the emblems and the fields which are attached to it: Heraldic, Numismatic Sigillography and .

He is member of the international Académie of heraldic and vice-president of the French company of heraldic. He received on September 16th, 2007 the national Prix of the medieval book: Layered branches world heritage, for its book the Bear, history of a deposed king .
