Michel Pébereau
Michel Pébereau (January 23rd 1942 -) is a Business man French, chairman of the board of BNP Paribas. He is the brother of Georges Pébereau.
Former student of the Polytechnic school (X 1961) and of the National school of administration, Michel Pébereau chose at the exit of the latter the Tax inspectorate. From 1970, he will be operations manager then adviser technical near the Minister for the Economy and finances, Valery Giscard d'Estaing. He will occupy these functions during 4 years. It will remain with the ministry until in 1982 where it will occupy in particular the direction of the Treasury. In parallel it becomes Principal private secretary of Rene Monory starting from 1978 Thereafter, it concluded the privatization of the commercial Crédit of France (1986), which it chaired of 1983 1993, then of the national Banque of Paris (1993), that it chairs of 1993 2000. In August 1999, it launches a double Public offering of exchange on the titles of the General society and of Paribas. The first offer fails, but the success of the second allows the creation of BNP Paribas, entity of which he is chairman of 2000 to 2003, date on which the president's functions and of managing director are separate. Since then, he assumes the president's functions of the board of directors of BNP Paribas.
Parallel to its activity of banker, he taught with the Institut of political studies of Paris as an university lecturer of 1968 to 1980, then as a professor of 1980 to 2000. He is president of the board of management of the establishment.
In 2005, it is charged by Thierry Breton, Minister for Finance, to create a charged commission to study the debt of the France. It returns its report/ratio the December 14th 2005.
In 2005, he becomes president of the Institut of the company.
Since November 2004, he is president of the Institut Aspen France and consequently president of the board of trustees and the council of orientation.
He is member of the High council of education (HCE), designated by the president of the Economic and Social Council, since his creation in 2005.
In 2007, it becomes representing State with the board of directors of EADS, posted left vacant by Louis Gallois.
He is member of the club the Century.
Mr. Pébereau is also famous to be a large amateur of works of science fiction.
