Michel Monbaron

Born with Swiss Reconvilier in the August 15th 1942, Michel Monbaron followed studies of Instituteur to the Teacher training school of Porrentruy. After a few years of teaching, he undertakes studies of Géologie to the Université of Neuchâtel. He obtains in 1972 a science degree, orientation geology. In 1975, it is made science doctor of the University of Neuchâtel for a thesis entitled Contribution to the study of the cluses of the septentrional Jura .

After a few years devoted to the oil Research in Switzerland, Michel Monbaron takes part in a geological cooperation program with the Morocco aiming at establishing a geological map of the High Atlas. In 1979, during this work, it discovers the remainders of a Atlasaurus. In 1987, Michel Monbaron is named professor associated in physical Géographie with the Université with Freiburg. In 1995, it obtains the scientific price Jules Thurmann. In 2002, with an international team of researchers, it discovers the jaw of an unknown species, that of the oldest Sauropode in the world, the ancestor of the atlasaurus.
