While being useful in the communities of Overseas where the role of the representative of the State is very limited, namely the French Polynésie and the New Caledonia, it was done particularly discrete, being particularly absent from media and sticking not to leave its simple impartial role of mediator. He resigned of his post of deputy High-Commissioner of the Government of the Republic in New Caledonia the October 15th 2007. This resignation having taken place at the time of the visit on the territory of the Secretary of State to Overseas the Christian Estrosi and criticisms hardly buckled of this last with respect to Michel Mathieu and its manner of managing the various social conflicts which took place since its taking of (strikes USTKE with repetition of the port authority or RFO, social conflicts with its many overflows of the CSTNC of Sylvain Néa against the Company Nickel, conflicts related to the construction of the Factory of the south with Goro), pushed the local mediums to be spoken about a more or less direct setting to the variation by the government of a High-Commissioner considered “too timoré apparently”. It indeed always made use of the police force to regulate its recurring problems the ultimate recourse. It is true also that, being old of 63 years, and then senior of the prefects in station in France, the noise ran that it would be replaced soon to enable him to leave to the retirement. The October 25th it is made prefect out-tallies while its successor is named: it is about Yves Dassonville, hitherto principal private secretary of Christian Estrosi.
