Michel Legrand

Michel Legrand born the February 24th 1932 with Paris is a type-setter, realizer, actor and scenario writer French residing in the Valais. He is the son of another famous musician, Raymond Legrand (1908 - 1974).

Legrand composed more than 200 screens for the cinema and television, several musical comedies, and has, with its credit more than 100 albums. It gained 3 Oscar S (on 13 nominations), 5 Grammy S and was named for a Emmy. At the 22 years age, it leaves its first album entitled I coils Paris , which became one of the best sales of all times for the instrumental albums. Virtuoso of the jazz, traditional pianist and achieved type-setter, it occurred with the best orchestras throughout the world, in particular those of Saint-Pétersbourg, Vancouver, Montreal, Atlanta and Denver. He recorded more than 100 albums with various international high-speed motorboats of different fields, like Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Jack Jones, Tereza Kesovija, Regine Velasquez, Ella Fitzgerald, Perry Como, Lena Horne, Dame Kiri You Kanawa, James Ingram, Johnny Mathis, Barbra Streisand, Nana Mouskouri, Mireille Mathieu or Laura Figy. With the beginning of the year 1950, Michel Legrand was one of the first Europeans to be worked with rising stars of the jazz, such Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Stan Getz and Bill Evans.

His/her sister, Christiane Legrand, was member of the Swingle Singers.

Michel Legrand is especially known as an innovating type-setter in cinema industry, writing the music of more than 200 films carried out by various scenario writers: Jean-Luc Godard, Richard Brooks, Claude Lelouch, Clint Eastwood and several others. Following the films the Umbrellas of Cherbourg and the Young ladies of Rochefort of Jacques Demy, the name of Legrand universally became known. the Umbrellas of Cherbourg is a film sung uninterrupted where all the dialogs were inspired by the music. This concept was revolutionist at that time.
