Michel Joseph Maunoury (1847 - 1923) is a Marshal of France.
Born with Maintenon (Eure-et-Loir) the December 17th 1847, it is wire of a Doctor of medicine. Resulting from promotion 1867 of the Polytechnic school, he becomes officer of Artillerie.
Military career
Sous-lieutenant raises with the École of application of artillery and the genius in 1869. Captain in 1874, instructor of horsemanship and control of cars. Assistant professor during artillery of the military special School of St Cyr in 1883. Major in 1886. Lieutenant-colonel in 1893. Military commander of the palate of the House of Commons 1896. Colonel in 1897. Brigadier general on December 30th 1901. Major general on January 28th 1906, Ordering artillery of the Place and the forts of Paris and Ordering the University of War. Military Governor of Paris in 1910 and member of the Superior council of the war. Placé under the section of reserve in 1912.Recalled to the activity on August 20th 1914 as commander of the Life armed made up of the troops with the garrison of Paris. It leads to their head a decisive attack on the side of the German offensive starting from the September 6th 1914 against the army von Kluck, at the time of the First battle of the Marne. Become again military Governor of Paris on November 5th 1915.
It dies out in the train which leads it to the Château of Herbilly, commune of Mer (Loir-et-Cher), the March 28th 1923. Created Marshal of France on a purely posthumous basis the next on March 31st, it profits from state funeral on April 2nd. Its funeral takes place with Mer in the presence of the marshals Joffre and Foch and of the Minister of Interior Department (Maurice Maunoury, its cousin). The body of the Maunoury marshal rests since the May 13rd 1931 with the Mausoleum of the Invalides in Paris.
Wounds
Wounded by a ball which crossed the right leg to him on December 2nd 1870, with the Bataille of Champigny.Seriously wounded of one ball to the head on March 11th 1915 at the time when it put the eye at a crenel, in the trenches of the plate of Nouvron which it visited. This wound left it blind man until his death. The projectile rebounded then to seriously wound the General of Villaret to the head.
