Michel Fox

Michel Renard (born the September 24th 1924 with the Backwater in Martinique) is a politician inhabitant of Martinique, great local line figure. Mayor of the Backwater of 1947 to 1995 and Député of Martinique 1986 to 1988.

Biography

Michel Renard is teaching of profession and was elected mayor of the Backwater in 1947 at the 23 years age. It is at the time the youngest mayor of France and the history of Martinique. On the political plan, the personality of Michel Fox, deeply marked the political life inhabitant of Martinique and more particularly its commune, the Backwater. Moreover, its political opponents called it " the Sheriff " because of sound strong character.

It is, moreover, the precursor of the SIATNO, become SIVMANO in 1975 then CCNM into 1995 which is at present the largest community of commune of Martinique. He will be the president of the SIVMANO during several years. Moreover, Michel Renard is at the origin of the creation of the Natural park of Martinique and the trade union of Water of Atlantic North (S.C.N.A.). To the level of the Department of Martinique, it brought on foot the commission F.I.R. (Funds of Intervention Truck driver) which structured the whole of the highway network of the Department and the Departmental management of Engineering services (D.D.S.T.).

During many years it also occupied a role of very first plan within the movement local gaullist. He is departmental secretary of the RPR federation of Martinique of 1977 to 1987. To the Legislative elections of 1978, Michel Renard presents himself against Aimé Césaire, the outgoing Deputy. But the electoral campaign is enamelled violences. March 9th, 1978, at the time of an electoral meeting, a brawl bursts on the Place of Savanna at Fort de France between the partisans of the two camps, and a man, Théolien Jalta, member of the service of order of Michel Renard are killed with blows of razor. This electoral campaign was one of most violent of the history of Martinique. With the first regional elections of 1983, Michel Renard is chief candidate of " The union départementale" (union RPR, UDF and DVD) and 52147 votes obtain.

With Legislative of 1986, Michel Renard is elected appointed of Martinique, posts that it will occupy until 1988. He will sit in the group RPR with the National Assembly. But disappointed by the behavior of certain right elected members, Michel Renard takes his distances with RPR and founds on April 7th, 1991 his political own party the movement " Martinique Before Tout". With the Local elections of 1995, it decides after having been Maire of the Backwater during 48 years not to represent itself. He saw then a quiet retirement in his birthplace, the Backwater.
