Michel Crépeau

Michel Edouard Jean Crépeau is a lawyer and Politician French, born on October 30th, 1930 with Fontenay-the-Count (the Vendée) and dead on March 30th, 1999 with Paris.

Biography

After having passed its childhood on the Vendean beaches, it brilliantly continues its schooling with the college Pierre Loti of Rochefort. It is registered then with the Faculty of Law of Bordeaux, of which it arises graduate. In 1955, he is lawyer with the Barreau of La Rochelle, and takes its first steps in the policy in 1958.

In 1967, it is elected general adviser in the canton of the Small rock-West. In 1968, it misses by accuracy the seat of Député, vis-a-vis André Salardaine, and decides to train an electoral team.

In March 1971, it gains the municipal elections and is elected mayor of the La Rochelle, function which it will occupy until his death. It then takes many initiatives in the fields of the Environnement, the Urbanisme and the Culture. It blocks constructions on the Littoral, extends the green areas, sets up a service of Recyclage of the Déchet S in 1973, inaugurates the first pedestrian Secteur of France in 1975, and a free self-service of 400 yellow bicycles in 1976.

In 1972, it takes part in the creation of the Mouvement of the radical lefts (MRG), following the scission of the Radical party. He is the president between 1978 and 1981, and the candidate with the presidential election of 1981, where it obtains 642  847 votes, are 2,21  % of the votes cast.

In 1984, it assists the creation of the festival of the Francofolies. In 1992, it poses the first stone of the Université of the La Rochelle at the sides of François Mitterrand and Helmut Kohl, at the time of the Sommet of the La Rochelle. Later, it launches the construction of the Technoforum, the Palais of the congresses, and moves the fishing port in Chef of Bay. In 1995, it sets up a network of Location of electric cars.

March 23rd, 1999, it is victim of a Cardiac arrest into full parliamentary meeting with the questions to the Government, to have shortly after put a question with Dominique Strauss-Kahn which was answering him. It is revived by Philippe Douste-Blazy and is led to the hospital, where it dies one week later.
