Michel Corringe

Michel Corringe (Tunis, August 2nd 1946 - Lorette, October 2nd 2001) was a French singer.

Biography

Michel Corringe (of his true name Michel Corring) was born the August 2nd 1946 with Tunis. Arrived in France in 1958 in the area of Montlucon, it records in 1968 the song which will make known it: “ the road ” (300 000 sold specimens). Then several 45 turns and albums until in 1982 will come. Routard, adventurer, declared follower of the beatniks and in particular of Jack Kerouac (which inspires certain songs to him), it is, in turn, logger, mechanic, restorer, decorator… He recalls, by this voluntary wandering side, Neil Young with the E. - U. or Cat Stevens with the the United Kingdom.

He always refused the system and the codes of the show business, which probably was worth to him its media lapse of memory starting from the medium of the Années 1980. To the Spring of Bourges where he sings in 1984, he passes the hand and leaves the world of the song, while continuing to write. He will leave “Phoenix”, his ultimate and only CD 14 years later, in 1998. This album, recorded with Brest, is mainly made up of re-recordings of its own songs (principle that it affectionate and applies throughout its career) and of some creations.

He lived in the area of Lyon where he had (and has always) a faithful public, in particular to Saint-Etienne, then in Brittany, on the northern coast of the Finistere, the last years of his life. It seems that he destroyed the originals of his first recordings. Little supported by the great media (with share Michel Lancelot and Jean-Louis Foulquier), used by alcohol and the disease, Michel Corringe died on October 2nd, 2001, in the lapse of memory with Lorette close to Saint-Etienne. It was incinerated then buried close to his mother in the native village of this one, Charolles in Saône-et-Loire.

Corringe incarnated in the Années 1970 the ideals of a generation marked by the beatniks of the Années 1950 and the years known as “Soixante-huitard be”: the search of freedoms, the refusal of the established values and the denunciation of the injustices. He sang that of a powerful voice which can evoke a mixture of Bernard Lavilliers and of Joe Dassin.
