Michel Brière

Michel Brière (born the October 21st 1949 with Malartic with the Quebec - deceased the April 13rd 1971) is a former hockey player of the National league of hockey.

Career

Michel Brière was chosen by the Penguins de Pittsburgh with the 3rd turn of the Repêchage amateur of the LNH 1969 (26e choice on the whole). During its career within the Cataracts of Shawinigan of the League of hockey major junior of Quebec (LHJMQ), Briere reached in 100 matches more than 300 points.

During its single season in LNH in 1969-70, Brière was one of the components of the hard core of the team of Penguins, equips which went to the second turn of the eliminatory Séries. It registers 12 goals then and carries out 44 decisive master keys, which made of him the 3rd best pointer of the équipe.
At this time of its career, of many people see in him future a star of the LNH and it was compared with Phil Esposito and Bobby Clarke (two large recruits of the history of the LNH).

May 15th, 1970 whereas it was in its town of Malartic to the Quebec and that it prepared for a marriage, it has, with two friends, an car accident. During this accident, Brière is ejected car, sudden serious wounds with the brain and fall into the coma. This coma lasts then nearly 7 weeks and once it leaves there, it is only for better alternating the phases of awakening and fainding. He dies in the hospital on April 13rd, 1971 after four major operations not having given anything.
