Michel Bitbol
Michel Bitbol is researcher in Philosophie Sciences.
He is Research director at CNRS at the research center in epistemology applied of the Polytechnic school, of which he is the assistant editor.
Its research topics are centered on the influence of the quantum physics in philosophy. It was interested in particular much in the thought of Schrödinger.
Gathering theorems which had with Jean-Louis Destouches, Paulette Destouches-February, and Rig Hughes, it stressed that the structures of quantum mechanics result on the whole of the assumption that the microscopic phenomena are indissociable of their experimental context. Its result converges with work of Julian Schwinger and Acher Peres, according to which the quantum Mécanique is a “symbolism of atomic measurements” rather than a description of the atomic objects. It also approaches the ideas to Anton Zeilinger and other authors, who affirm that quantum mechanics is a pure information theory. For these authors, the quantum laws do not express the nature of the physical objects, but the limits of the experimental information which one can lay out about them.
Reconsidered thus, quantum mechanics is not regarded any more a physique with the traditional direction, but as a theory on physics, a metaphysics, or rather a infra-physics, because it goes back to the first conditions which make it possible to formulate a physical theory. This " Metaphysical " strictly scientific as an aim the study of the interactions between the experimenter and the microscopic world has. What is called physical Loi is actually the theoretical instrument which makes it possible to predict the result of this interaction and to interpret it as a stable relation. Some propose, with humor, to rename this new design of physics " physics kantique". Mr. Bitbol claims step of E indeed. Kant according to which one includes/understands the contents of a knowledge only while having analyzed the conditions of possibility (sensory, instrumental, and rational) of this knowledge.
Author of several works on these problems, it was rewarded by the Grammaticakis-Neumann price for philosophy for sciences for the Academy of Science morals and policies for quantum Mécanique, a philosophical introduction .
He took part in the conferences of the Mind and Life Institute, the purpose of which is to promote a dialog between science and Buddhism.
