Michel Alexandrovich of Russia

Mikhaïl Alexandrovich Romanov or the Large Duke Michel of Russia (МихаилАлександровичРоманов in Russian) (November 22nd 1878 - June 12th 1918) was a Russian prince of the dynasty of the Romanov.

He was the son of the tsar Alexandre III of Russia and his wife born Dagmar of Denmark (Maria Fédorovna) and the brother of Nicolas II of Russia. Its more close relatives reigned on Russia, Great Britain and the Indies, Norway, Denmark and Greece.

After the failure of several attempts at engagement, the large-duke éprit of a divorced woman: it left the Russia to marry in 1911, Natalia Cheremetievska (1880 - 1952), titrated in 1938 princess Romanovski Brassova. They had only one child, the Georges large-duke, Georgui Mikhaïlovitch (1910 - 1931). Such a union obstructed the imperial couple insofar as the tsarévitch suffering Alexis of hemophilia, Michel were highly likely to reach the throne. By contracting an unequal marriage, it deviated normally from the imperial succession.

In 1914, Mickhaïl Alexandrovitch and his wife the large duchess Natalia Cheremetievska reconsidered to Russia the request of Nicolas II of Russia. They settled with Gatchina.

The March 2nd (Calendar Julien) or the March 15th (Gregorian Calendar) 1917, his/her brother Nicolas II abdicated in his favor and renonça with the throne for his/her Alexis son. But, the large-duke Mikhaïl Alexandrovitch did not want any to reach the throne in this climate of disorder and hatred more especially as a popular belief claimed that the tsar Michel II would conquer Constantinople whereas Russia knew the defeat and anarchy.

He controlled one day and desisted from any engagement. One wrote an ambiguous act of abdication then safeguarding the possibility of a monarchical restoration in the future.

The Soviets stopped the large duke Mikhaïl Alexandrovitch with the palate of Gatchina and took along it to Perm where they placed it in a hotel with his Johnson trusty servant. Natalia Cheremetievska, Romanovski-Brassova princess, dared to meet Lénine which gave a letter to him clearing the large-duke Mikhaïl Alexandrovitch, but actually this document did not have any value.

The June 12th 1918, the large duke Mikhaïl Alexandrovitch was cut down with Perm with its Johnson servant, under the false pretext which it tried to flee. It was 39 years old.
