Michel A. Thérien

Biographical notes

Michel Thérien is a poet Canadian born with Ottawa in 1947. The literature is for him a means of assertion and cultural survival. It makes studies in French letters with the Université of Ottawa in the years 1970 and, at that time, it publishes its first poems in literary newspapers and reviews. During several years, Thérien continues a career in education, then with the federal public office and the United Nations.

Poet of the ellipse, it writes in an at the same time sober and stripped style. He approaches in his work the topics of the language, his defense in minority medium, the poem like instrument of survival and radiation of the language, just like the broad universal topics of the beauty, the love, the social injustice, the suffering and the war. In its second collection, wild heading Body , published in the year 2000, it approaches for the first time the genocide in Rwanda. This collection will lead it to travel to Africa to some recoveries. It is in 2007 qu ' it will publish its African notebooks, giddiness and hope .

Devoting from now on its life to poetry, it takes part systematically in demonstrations of writers, in particular, in 2004, with the International meeting of the poets, Dakar, the Senegal. In March 2007, it presents its works to the Printemps of the poets in Paris, at the sides of authors such as Myriam Montoya (Colombia), of Tereza Riedlbauchova (Czech Republic), of Amina Saïd (Tunisia), of Richard Dalla Rosa (France), of Claude Beausoleil (Quebec), and of Jean-Philippe Raîche (Acadie).

Militant of the francophonie and its poetry, Michel A. Thérien played a determining role in the creation of a poetic axis to the Biennale of the French language, in which it took part in Ottawa, in 2003, and with the La Rochelle in 2005. He is active member of the Association of the authors and auteures of French Ontario.

Its poetic work, though still young person, already gained literary prizes.
