Michaela Leonarda Almonaster there Roxas , by its marriage Michaela Delfau de Pontalba , known as the baroness of Pontalba , was born with the New-Orleans in 1795 and died in Paris in 1874.
Biography
Girl of Gift Andres Almonaster there Roxas, notary Spanish who had piled up a great fortune in land speculations in Louisiana, Michaela Almonaster there Roxas married at the sixteen years age her cousin, Joseph Xavier Célestin Delfau de Pontalba, and settled in Paris and the Castle of Mount-the Bishop in her in-laws. This arranged marriage was not happy, even if the couple had three children. The husbands divorced in 1834.She remained in Paris and acquired in 1836 of old the hotel of Aguesseau , 41 Rue of the Suburb-Saint-Honore. She made it rebuild between 1842 and 1855 by Louis Visconti.
Michaela had a violent argument with his/her ex-beautiful-father, the baron Joseph Xavier de Pontalba, who drew to him above before turning over his gun against him. She was seriously wounded but survived and turned over to the New-Orleans in 1848 with two of her three sons.
She created there a new place, Jackson Square , and the two large buildings, known as Pontalba Buildings , which borders it and counts among the most remarkable buildings of the city.
She then turned over to live in Paris where she died in 1874.
