It took share with the Opération Condor, by planning the attack against the general Carlos Prats in Buenos Aires in 1974, under the orders of the chief of DINED Manuel Will counter, as well as the car bomb attack against the former minister of Allende, Orlando Letelier, in Washington D.C., in 1976.

According to déclassifiés documents of the CIA (published by the National Security Files), it was engaged in 1970 by this one. it met in 1975 Stefano Delle Chiaie, a terrorist Italian Néo-fasciste having worked with Gladio. Townley was also in liaison with the former member of OAS Albert Spaggiari.

Condemned to the United States for the assassination of Orlando Letelier in 1976, it directly implied, at the time of its lawsuit, Pinochet himself in the attack. Townley confessed moreover that it had rented the services of five anti cuban castrists in order to trap the car of Orlando Letelier. According to the journalist Jean-Guy Allard, after consultations with the leaders of the organization anti-castriste CORU, of which Shine Posada Carriles and Orlando Bosch, those which were indicated to prepare the murder were Jose Dionisio " Bath of sang" Suárez, Virgilio Paz Romero, Alvine Ross Díaz and the Guillermo brothers and Ignacio Novo Sampoll [http://www.granma.cu/ingles/mar03/mier26/12posada.html]. According to the Miami Herald , Shine Posada Carriles (today in the United States, he is sought by Venezuela and Cuba for the attack against the Vol 455 Cubana made on October 6th, 1976), was with the meeting which decided on the two events (the attack of flight 455 and the murder of Letelier).

In front of the pressures growing of the American authorities after this murder made on the ground, with the center even of the capital, the mode of Pinochet agreed into 1978 to extradite Michael Townley in the United States, which was then released under the federal Programme of protection of the witnesses. Washington still waits for the extradition of the chief of DINED, Manuel Will counter, and of the general Pedro Espinoza Bravo.

Argentinian federal judge Maria Servini de Cubria also claimed in Santiago, in 2003, the extradition of Mariana Callejas, the ex-wife of Townley, so shown murder of Carlos Prats. But Chilean judge Nibaldo Segura, of the Court of Appeal, refused in July 2005, by declaring that Callejas was already being judged in Chile.

Questioned in March 2005 by judge Alejandro Madrid in connection with the death of the former president Christian Democrat Eduardo Frei Montalva, Michael Townley acknowledged the existence of bonds between the Colonia Dignidad, sinister camp directed by the former Nazi Paul Schäfer, and the bacteriological Laboratory of war of the Chilean army of the other with dimensions. The investigators suspect that the poison which killed Frei Montalva in the private clinic of Santa Maria in 1982 was elaborate in this place. This new laboratory of the army, inside Colonia Dignidad, would have been, according to Townley, the successor of the laboratory of DINED Via Naranja on lo Curro, where Townley worked with the chemist Eugenio Berrios. Townley also testified about biological experiments made on prisoners in this camp to detention.
