Michael Tilson Thomas (" MTT") is a Compositeur, Leader and American Pianiste , born with Los Angeles the December 21st 1944
Biography
He studies with the the University of California of the South auprès in particular of Friedlinde Wagner (1918-1991), before becoming chief attending the Festival of Bayreuth. He occurs as pianist, with in particular recordings devoted to the work of Gershwin.In 1969, it directs for the first time the prestigious Symphony orchestra of Boston to replace its principal chief William Steinberg, of which it becomes assisting it until 1974. Musical director of the Philharmonic orchestra of Buffalo of 1971 to 1979, it also leads the series of the " Young People' S Concerts" (teaching concerts for the children) with the Philharmonic orchestra of New York of 1971 to 1977.
From 1981 to 1985, it directs the Philharmonic orchestra of Los Angeles, then the Symphony orchestra of London of 1988 to 1995. In 1995, it is named with the head of the Symphony orchestra of San Francisco which it always directs. It founded the New World Symphony Orchestra, an orchestra of young musicians based with Miami.
Repertory as a chief
Tilson Thomas was made the defender of the American symphonic repertory, with in particular an integral of the symphonies of Charles Ives and the first recording of The Desert Music Steve Reich. It also continues an integral of the symphonies of Gustav Mahler with the Symphony orchestra of San Francisco which publishes itself the recorded discs.Since the death of its mentor Leonard Bernstein, he is regarded as the best interpreter of the work of Aaron Copland.
