Michael Myers

Michael Audrey Myers is a character of fiction which appears in the majority of films of the series Halloween .

History

The first film of the series, Halloween, the night of the masks ( Halloween ), was written and put in scene by John Carpenter.

Michael is born on October 19th, 1957 with Haddonfield in the Illinois. October 31st, 1963, whereas it is only six years old, Michael, disguised as a clown, assassinates with stabs of stopping her Judith older sister, which is worth to him to be interned with the psychiatric asylum of Smith' S Grove, where her case is treated by Doctor Samuel Loomis. Fifteen years later, little time after having reached its majority, at 21 years, Myers must be transferred to the court to be judged. But on October 30th, 1978, it conceals the car of its psychiatrist and turns over to Haddonfield. On the way, he assassinates an automobile break-down mechanic and its coverall conceals to him. In end of the afternoon, it flies in a bazaar of Haddonfield, a cord, kitchen knifes as well as a white mask. The murders, consequently, will start again.

In Halloween 2 (Rick Rosenthal, 1982), whose events proceed the same night as the 1st episode, Michael Myers continuous to track Laurie Strode at the hospital of Haddonfield. One discovers in this episode which Laurie is the young sister of Michael (it was only 2 years old at the time when his/her brother was interned). The killer with the white mask and Doctor Loomis, his untiring continuing, find (apparently) death in the flames at the end of film.

Halloween 3 (Tommy Lee Wallace, 1982) breaks with the two precedents opus and at any time to intervene the character of Myers does not make.

In Halloween 4 (Dwight H. Little, 1988) and Halloween 5 (of the French Dominique Othenin-Girard), Michael and Dr. Loomis, left what was in fact only one coma, clash around the niece of Michael, Jamie.

In Halloween 6 (Joe Vault, 1995), Michael continues her family obsession while being caught some to the baby of Jamie.

With Halloween, 20 years after (Steve To undermine, 1998), it is the great return of Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis, which had deserted the saga after the second episode). The scenario despizes of the 4 preceding episodes and is presented in the form of a continuation of Halloween 2. Laurie became director of a college, changed identity and raises his/her adolescent son. But Michael returns once again, ready to sow terror the evening of Halloween. Lastly, in Halloween resurrection (Rick Rosenthal, 2002), return to Haddonfield. This time, Myers is caught some to the candidates of a play of TV-reality diffused on Internet and which takes place in its house of childhood, place of the original drama. In the first scene of film, Michael succeeds in killing Laurie.

In 2007, a Halloween 9 realized by Rob Zombie is the remake which would reconsider the tortured childhood of Michael Myers and the reasons which pushed it to kill his/her sister whereas it was only 6 years old.

In almost thirty years, the image and the name of Michael Myers were distilled in sides entirety of the culture, popular or not, and the impassive killer became a powerful and mercantile icon.

Another characteristic element which intensifies episodes progressively: its absolute invulnerability, its capacity to resist the balls and all kinds of maltreatment make a kind of it be superhuman, of incarnation of the absolute Evil. Soon a halloween 10 will be born or michael will go to France to kill the president has to announce John carpenter.malheureusement this film will be interdict with less than 18 years because there are many shocking scenes.

Anecdotes

  • the legendary mask white of Myers is in fact the mask of the Capitaine Kirk (of Star Trek) interpreted by William Shatner. Tommy Lee Wallace, decorator chief of turning, bought it for 2 dollars, as well as a mask of clown, in order to find the pace of the killer. The mask of Kirk was slightly arranged (increased eyes, rouflaquettes removed and painted in bluish white). When Nick Castle carried out the tests, the mask of clown was judged very well (because in complete shift with the fatal madness of the character), but the white mask, disturbing by its complete absence of expression, gave shivers to all the team of turning and was then preserved. It remains one of the disguises more in vogue for the festival of Halloween in the United States.

  • the name of Doctor Loomis is a homage to Psychose (Alfred Hitchcock, 1960) in which one finds a character of the name of Sam Loomis. By its topics, its reasons (the long kitchen knife in particular), its music and its setting in scene, Halloween, the night of the masks are inspired openly by Psychose. In the same way, the main actor of film, Jamie Lee Curtis is not other than the girl of Janet Leigh, the victim of the scene of shower of Psychose.
  • This same name of Loomis is also used by Wes Craven in Scream , in 1997, with the character of Billy Loomis. The trilogy Scream multiplies the winks with film of John Carpenter and with the character of Michael Myers. In the scene of opening of the first episode for example; or when the character of Randy uses Halloween, the night of the masks to expose the fundamental rules of film of horror.
