Michael Kenneth Mann (born the February 5th 1943 with Chicago) is a realizer, scenario writer and producer of American cinema. He studied at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and left graduate the London International Film School.

After having lived seven years in Great Britain, it returns to the United States and begins its career as a scenario writer of televised series like Vega$ or Starsky and Hutch . Its first feature-length film is the Téléfilm The Jericho Mile . In the years 1980, it creates and produces the series Miami Vice and Police Story .

Starting from the Years 1990, Michael Mann is devoted exclusively to the cinema.

Nominations with the Oscars:

• in 1999 for Revelations : better realizer, better photo, better scenario based on existing material.
• in 2004 for The Aviator : better film of the year (as a producer).
