Michael Howard is the person in charge of safety at Microsoft. After having worked with the company during a certain time as a consultant, Microsoft engaged it in 2002.

The company then estimated that many the security breaches of its products (which it mainly allots to the misuse of its software) harmed largely in term of brand image, but also of cost (the development of patch of safety sometimes reaching several tens of thousands of dollars). The company then entrusted to Michael Howard the responsibility to define new strategies of safety as well as the redefinition of the mode of development of the Logiciel S.

The first decisions snuff were the sending of all the developers in formation for 3 months, the prohibition of the not-protected instructions such as strcpy () and their elimination of the source codes, creations of compilers analyzing the safety of the code, to put the configuration by defect at the maximum security levels for the products, etc

Michael Howard wrote a work, Writing Secure Code. This book is an obligatory reading of all the employees of Microsoft.
