Michael Halperin

Michael-Yéhiel-Mihal Halperin ( מיכאליחיאלמיכלהלפרין ) is a pioneer of the Sionisme, enthusiastic defender of the idea of re-establishment of the royalty of Israel, based on statutory values of Justice. It counts among the outstanding personalities of the ideas of the Retour to Sion and the project of Jewish reimplantation in Ground of Israel. Michael Halperin is born with Vilna in 1860.

Following the Pogrom S aiming at the Jewish S in Russia (1881 - 1882), Halperin adheres to the ideas of the Return to Sion and settles in Palestine in 1885, where it buys grounds and creates the first workers' association of the country. It also supports the movement pioneer of opposition to the representatives of the baron Edmond de Rothschild. It takes part in the foundation of Born-Tziona and Hadera. Then it leaves a few years in Russia, where it assembles Jewish groups of youth joined together around ideas Zionists and workers. Michael Halperin contributes to the creation of the party Poale Zion and to that of the group Auto-défense.

In 1906, it turns over in Palestine, where it becomes guard.

Halperin considers the idea of the constitution of a military battalion of defense, intended for the protection of the country and its population. It is besides very close to the organization Hashomer. Michael Halperin takes part in many project concerning with the future of the Earth of Israel. Then it leaves for the Ethiopia, where it comes into contact with the Jewish community of the country, to which it proposes its project of force of Ground self-defense of Israel. Of its return in Palestine during the First World War, it requires to engage in the Jewish Légion, but within sight of its age, it is driven back by it. Michael Halperin dies in 1919, and is buried with Mahanaïm in High Galileo.
