The teams of Hurricanes take part in the university competitions organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Miami belongs to the division Atlantic Coast Conference where it takes part in 15 disciplines.

The most famous team of Hurricanes is that of American football which gained five national titles (1983, 1987, 1989, 1991 and 2001). Vinny Testaverde (1986) and Gino Torretta (1992) was honoured by a Heisman Trophy. Hurricanes evolve/move with the Miami Orange Bowl, pregnant property of the town of Miami of 74.177 places inaugurated in 1937.

The team of Baseball of Hurricanes gained four national titles: 1982, 1985, 1999 and 2001.
