History
The Miami Arena was inaugurated the July 13rd 1988 with the concert of Julio Iglesias and cost $52,5 million USD. Its opening ruined the businesses of the Hollywood Sportatorium (15 500 places) which thereafter led to its transfer then its demolition in 1993. The Pink Elephant thus called for its color, was built by the town of Miami to accommodate franknesses NBA and NHL with the beginning of the year 1980. Construction delayed prevented the opening until in 1988 with significant goings beyond of cost. While the original design of the room was a factor for Miami receiving a team of expansion NBA of Basket-ball, the capacity in sitted places of the arena was limited (approximately 15.000 seats) and the great lack of continuations of luxury, made the building decayed for the Heat of Miami. The November 5th 1988, the first match NBA is played Miami Arena , Miami Heat PERT vis-a-vis Los Angeles Clippers, 111-91. It is the October 12th 1993 which the Panthers of Florida play their first match in the arena vis-a-vis Penguins de Pittsburgh (score 2-1).Among the principal events, the arena accommodated NBA All-Star Range of 1990, the final of the Coupe Stanley of 1996 opposing the Panthers of Florida to Avalanche of Colorado and WWE Royal Rumble of the January 19th 1991.
The January 2nd 2000, the Heat of Miami moved with the AmericanAirlines Arena, located in the east of the Miami Arena on the shore of Biscayne Bay. The Panthers of Florida also left the Miami Arena to play with what is now the BankAtlantic Center located at Sunrise (Florida), near to the Sawgrass Mills.
The majority in the concerts which were held with Miami Arena are now held in the new rooms, including the BankAtlantic Center, the AmericanAirlines Arena or Seminole Hard rock Casino with Hollywood (Florida). Since, the arena remained most of the time inactive. It was sold in a public bidding in 2004 with Glenn Straub, an investor of the Comté of Palm Beach (Florida), for $24 million USD of less than the $52 million USD used by the town of Miami to pay its original construction. The Miami Arena is called sometimes " Pink Elephant " because it is a " White elephant " with pink coloured walls.
