Mhère is a common French, located in the department of the Nievre and the area Burgundy.

Geography

Since the entry of the Slovenia in the Euro area at January 1st 2007, Mhère became the geographical center of the euro area succeeding in that the common neighbor of Montreuillon, according to a calculation carried out by IGN.

Sprinkled by the Yonne which is still a torrent, the commune is located in the Regional natural park of Morvan. Its sector belongs to the most wooded and mountainous zone of Morvan. The hill of the Banquet is its culminating point, and its name points out a tradition which consisted, formerly, to organize meals on the highest hill of the village.

History

The name of Mhère would derive from that of the god Mercure whose worship would have been celebrated in the vicinity.
