At the top of the one of the so frequent natural hillocks in Vellum country, one of these pioneers made raise a castle on feudal mound, " poype”, into Dauphine, able to offer a refuge to the inhabitants of Bardieu. This building is at the origin of a new village where a parish church will rise concerned with the abbey of Ainay. The files made known to us Pons de Meyzieu. Meyzieu is one of the toponyms in IEU with strong density in Dauphine North. In the oldest texts, Meziaco indicated the field of Meziacus, Latinized patronym. The castle of Meyzieu entered in kingdom of France after the acquisition of Dauphine in 1349 and the treaty of Paris in 1355. From 1374, Meyzieu will be pledged successively with new lords through whom emerges Pierre de Tardes, a rider of the king Louis XII who will accommodate François 1st at his place in 1536. Henri II will also remain him in Meyzieu in 1548. Meyzieu at the XVIIIe century was a rural village, where the " was cultivated; village noir" i.e. buckwheat, oats, rye and hemp, for the ropes. In 1774, the town of Lyon built its first Morand bridge. It is a road open to the relationsavec the city of silk. The lord of Meyzieu, Claude Paris of the Mountain, made quickly plant mulberry trees and launched the breeding of the silkworm at Majolans. A new purchaser intervenes in the history of Meyzieu: Louis de Leusse of the Coasts whose son will illustrate himself by the culture of potato in Mathiolan, well before the initiatives of Parmentier. After July 14th, 1789 starts the " Large peur" into Dauphine. The castle of Pusignan flames on July 28th. The plunderers started to ransack the castle of Meyzieu when a detachment of dragons the met in escape. In 1790, Vincent Quinon, first mayor of Meyzieu installs his town hall in hiring, with the angle of the street Louis Saulnier and the street of the Republic. It is with the cure that it will hold then its municipal meetings. Meyzieu becomes a commune of the department of Isere and becomes chief town of canton. A town hall representative of its administrative promotion is then built on the current place of the de Gaulle general. In 1793, the marquis de Leusse, in spite of his philanthropic initiatives with Meyzieu, is guillotine in Lyon. The castle is then sold in national good. Some purchasers followed one another, of which the Vachon brothers; the field passed in heritage to Madam the marchioness the Clerk of Verpillère. The residence, become old people's home, sees its last tower crumbling one day of high wind on February 27th, 1950. The castle of the lords of Meyzieu underwent as well transformations during the centuries as it is unrecognizable today.
the industrial revolution The progress and the development of the techniques bring to Meyzieu the railroad of the Lyons East (inaugurated in 1881) then the tram (1910). They also result in the construction of the Canal of Jonage (1895), intended to feed the hydroelectric factory of Cusset on the the Rhone. The Big wide, vast outfall of 150 hectares is the compensation reserve of 1.500.000 m3 of the Canal of Jonage undertaken in 1892. It became an essential component of our landscape, justifying leisures and sports activities.
Lastly, the fort of Meyzieu is built on the site of the source of Bardieu in 1893. Its guns were quickly condemned by progress of the armament. The dominant activity of common remains however agricultural until in the years 1920/1930 where Is Lyons industrializes itself (chemistry).
the contemporary time Until 1950, the population majolane oscillates around 2.200 inhabitants. The Sixties and seventies start the demographic rise of the city. The great units (Planted) are built to accommodate the repatriates of North Africa. The delocalization of Lyons industries in search of space is used as engine with an accelerated urbanization. The plain from the Dauphine of Lyon knows an urbanization in oil task. The landscape is organized around the great zones of activities.
With the difference of cities like Bron or Vaulx-in-Vellum, the demographic expansion is more translated in Meyzieu by the development of the individual habitat than collective. The urbanization of the periphery of the Lyon creates a horse agglomeration on three departments (Isere, the Rhone, Ain) difficult to manage. On several occasions, of the cantons bordering on the Rhone are attached to him. Thus in 1968, Meyzieu becomes a common resident of the Rhone member of the Urban community. Lastly, with the explosion of the suburban habitat, Meyzieu attracts new social layers, in the search of a more convivial lifestyle and passes from 19.505 inhabitants in 1975 to 28.238 in 1999. The city is essential then like an important pole of the Lyons agglomeration.
The lion of the " Town of Meyzieu" evoke the lords de Chandieu. Those had been called by the family of the first lords, of the name of " Meyzieu" , to protect their feudal mound effectively (current site of the old people's home). It is with the foot of this mound that the inhabitants come from Bardieu in prey to the insecurity had gathered. A new village had been born. The prestige of the lords de Chandieu was expressed in their armorial bearings with a lion, symbol of energy, " armed and lampassé of azur" , i.e. with the claws and the blue language, color of justice, their lion proclaiming the right good and making use of its claws to defend it. The lion of Chandieu on bottom bright red, sign of boldness and valiancy is ready to spring. It traditionally looks at the dextral side of the escutcheon, born on the shield in protection ahead of of the knight. As a chief (one the higher third of the ecu) the dolphin recalls the memory of Meyzieu in Dauphiné country. The two Maltese crosses of money (white) traced on both sides dolphin are extracted from the armorial bearings of the last lords of Meyzieu the " of Leusse".
