Meung-sur-Loire
Meung-sur-Loire is a common French, located in the department of the Loiret and the area Center. The inhabitants are called the Magdunois . Meung-sur-Loire is twinned with common the British of Lymm, common allemande of Munster, and Gundelfingen, the Polish commune of Bierun. The name of the city decides the Min-on-Loire .
Geography
The city is located on northern bank of the the Loire at about fifteen kilometers of Orleans. It is crossed by the Mauves, together of three rivers, resulting from the tablecloth of Beauce and which run out towards the river in the form of small channels with fast flow making it possible to make function various mills.
History
The Gallo-Roman village was called Magdunum and was located in a very marshy area. In the tradition, it is holy Liphard (towards 520) which cleanses the places by channeling the rivers which became the mauves . It built a vault, become there monastery thereafter.In 1103, the king Louis VI seizes the fortress. U year later, the relic of Liphad Saint are placed in the church. The strengthened abbey home which is next to the church is put in construction during XIIe century.
In XIIe century, the church is renovated in the Gothic style and Jeanne d' Arc comes to collect in 1429 there. The building is again restored towards 1570, at the XIXe century and in 1985.

- the collegial Saint-Liphard (or Saint-Lifard), of XIe in XIIIe century, built on the tomb of the saint, is a building comprising of Romance parts. The bell-tower is leant with a strengthened tower, said Manassès de Garlande . The plan of the church is in " trèfle" (three apses semicircular) what is not usual in the area.
- the castle of Meung-sur-Loire , residence of countryside of the bishops of Orleans, close to collegial, was built and destroyed on several occasions. The existing parts oldest date from XIIe century and were built by Manassès de Seignelay (bishop of 1207 with 1221). Currently remains the principal body of rectangular form, flanked of three turns (the last having been destroyed). It was occupied by English at the time of the Guerre One hundred Year old. The posterior frontage was rebuilt of traditional style by Fleuriau d' Armenonville (bishop of 1713 with 1733). The castle of also characterizes by the presence of undergrounds comprising of the dungeons, a vault and where various medieval instruments of torture are visible of which one was useful for the " torment with the eau".
- the Porte of upstream is the only remainder of the fortifications having encircled the city. It goes back to 1629. It comprises a clock of which the dial counts 61 minutes!
- municipal Museum dedicated to Gaston Cost like François Quatrehomme, an archeologist local amateur
- the arboretum of the Meadows of Culands , created in 1987, comprises an important collection of Houx ( Conservatoire national of ilex ).
- the mauves comprise on its banks of many mills (nearly 29 buildings, with flour, paper or " with tan" for the tannery). There does not remain any more but two mills in activity, driven by electricity…

- Jean de Meung is one of the authors of the Romance of the Rose .
- the poet François Villon was thrown in a deepest dungeon close to the castle of Meung.
