Methyl isocyanate

The isocyanate of methyl (MIC Methyl isocyanate) is an intermediary used for the manufacture of Pesticides of the family of the Carbamate S (C2H3NO; H3C-N=C=O).

  • produces extremely flammable.
  • toxic by inhalation, contact of the skin and ingestion.
  • irritating for the eyes, the respiratory tracts and the skin.
  • to preserve the container in a well broken down place.
  • not to pour water in this product.

It is responsible for the tragedy of Bhopal.

The methyl isocyanate is appeared as a very volatile colorless liquid, of particularly bitter odor. Its vapors are lachrymatory. It is not very water soluble with the contact of which it breaks up.
