Methods applied information technologies with the business management

MIAGE is the Acronyme of " M éthodes I nformatic has ppliquées with the G estion of the E ntreprises".

It is about a training in three years (sometimes still labelized in IUP) training data processing specialists specialists in engineering in the information systems and in particular in the project managers in Informatique. Indeed, in addition to one formation on information technologies (programming, databases, theories data processing, etc), the students are trained with the analysis, the techniques of communication, the economy, the accountancy and the project management. Students in MIAGE (" Miagistes") are brought to become architects of the Information systems.

History

The MIAGE was born in the Sixties, following the requests of the world of industry to set up university trainings of engineers in fields forsaken then by the schools traditionnelles.
In 1969, the Minister for the State education of the time (Edgar Faure) then sets up in three pilot universities (Lille, Clermont-Ferrand, and Montpellier), the control MIAGE which, supplemented one year additional was to lead to a OF the. Since, the MIAGE of Clermont-Ferrand and Montpellier disappeared but the MIAGE continued to develop. Thus, there are 20 MIAGE in France nowadays.

For two years, course MIAGE has brought to a master (L3, M1 and m2).

In addition, the whole of the directors of formations MIAGE is gathered in the Conference of the Directors of MIAGE (CDM). The CDM is chaired by a director. Mr. Daniel Marquié (deputy manager of Miage Toulouse) is the current president.

Diagram of the studies

Before the reform of LMD, one could integrate (on contest and talks) the first year after 1 academic year (one year of DEUG, maths sup, etc) or the second year after 2 academic years (DEUG, maths spé, HAD). The formation lasted 3 years and led to obtaining a control and a diploma for the occupation of main engineer.
Since the reform of LMD, one integrates the formation (sometimes on contest and talks) after 2 academic years (3rd year of license, IUT, maths spé) for one 3 years duration. The diploma delivered at the end of the course is a master (BAC+5).

Contents

The MIAGE is a very appreciated formation of the companies for its capacity to give to its students a double competence: the Data-processing and the Management. The occupational aspect is a major characteristic of the formation, that it is by the presence of professional in the teaching body or by the obligatory training courses. According to the cities, the course and the material taught can slightly differed. For example, MIAGe of Nancy east of advantage focused on the design of information system via the step intégratice, called D.I by the miagists (an improvement of Merise).

Localization

In 2006 network MIAGE counted 20 MIAGE through France, the majority in big cities: Lille, Amiens, Nancy, Paris-IDF (7), Rennes, Orleans, Mulhouse, Nantes, Lyon, Grenoble, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Nice, Aix-Marseilles. On a very similar program in L3 and M1, each MIAGE offers a more specific training in m2. A student registered in MIAGE can make its 2nd and 3rd year in one of the MIAGE of the network if the given training interests it more.

The e-mi@ge

Since 2005 was set up the network e-miage, a network of which the goal is to reach a public which cannot follow a traditional university formation:
  • continuing education,
  • the metropolitan students of which mobility is reduced,
  • “distant” students French or foreigners.

The e-mi@ge is also used in the MIAGE, each student has an account which gives him access to the entirety of the courses exempted in MIAGE. The documents which one finds on the network e-mi@ge are the fruit of a groupware: each MIAGE contributes to the design of the gate by providing the courses which it controls best.

JNM

National Days MIAGE (JNM) take place each year and exist since the creation of the diploma. This congress gathering on average 500 people, created and organized by the directors of MIAGE, takes place each year in a city lodging a MIAGE, which accommodates a delegation of students and professors of each one of other MIAGe. During three days are connected conferences, exposures, meetings of professionals around a given topic related to the formation, but also an official reception and an evening typically coed.
