Method
When it is a question of using the method at a meeting, the principle is to make the effort endorse all the modes of Pensée in turn (or to recognize them at the other speakers). A sequence of use of the hats is given in advance according to the problem to treat (ex: one thinks out of white hat initially, then in red, then in black, etc); each speaker must use the way of thinking connected to the hat determined by the sequence.
This system creates a climate of discussion cordial and creative and facilitates the contribution of each one. That makes it possible all to be over the same wavelength at the same time and the ideas of the ones cause the ideas of the others.
This method centralizes the creative energy of the team, seldom solicited. One can more quickly solve the problems by concentrating his thought on the task to be achieved. The novel ideas are then protected from immediate criticism and can thus develop. This method is thus much more productive than the method of usual critical argumentation.

Various hats
- white Hat La neutrality: when it wears the white hat, the thinker states facts purely and simply. The person feeds the group in figures and information. It is the image of the coldness of the computer and that of paper. It is the taste of simplicity: minimalism.
- red Hat La critical emotional: with the red hat, the thinker reports his tinted information of emotions, feelings, intuitions and presentiments. He does not have to furnish proof himself to the other hats. It is the fire , the passion , the intuition .
- black Hat
La critical negative: when it wears the black hat, the made thinker of the objections by underlining the dangers and risks which awaits the concretization of the idea. It is the the Devil's advocate! It is the prudence , the negative judgment . - yellow Hat La critical positive: when it wears the yellow hat, the thinker admits his dreams and his most insane ideas. Its comments are constructive and try to put in action the ideas suggested by the other members of the group. It is the sun and the optimism .
- green Hat La creativity: when it wears the green hat, the thinker causes, search for the alternatives. He takes as a starting point the side Pensée, in a different way to consider a problem. He leaves the beaten paths and proposes new ideas. It is the fertility of the plants, the seed of the ideas .
- blue Hat L' organization: it is the leader of play, the organizer of the meeting which channels the ideas and the exchanges between the other hats. It is the blue of the sky which includes all .
