Meteor (subway)

Meteor is the name of an automatic transport system developed by the company Matra international transport (Matra - Siemens).

This technology is employed on the line 14 subway of Paris (brought into service in October 1998) and is, like the system VALLEY (first automatic line installation on the metropolis inhabitant of Lille in 1983), a automatic subway , but using for its part oars and ways of standard spacing. It rests on the SAET (Automatic Système of Exploitation of the Trains), Logiciel created with the formal method " Method B " by Matra Transport International and the RATP, inspired of the software Maggaly, conceived for the line D of the subway of Lyon. It makes it possible to ensure an high level of safety on the line 14.

The principal advantage of the SAET on the system VALLEY is that it allows the simultaneous circulation of integral oars automatic and oars integral not-automatics (with drivers), which will be really used at the time of the transitional period between the exploitation integral and automatic not-automatic integral of the Ligne 1 of the subway of Paris planned for the end of 2010.

By its operation, the line 14 is today an international window which already made it possible to export this technology throughout the world.

History

An automatic subway had already been built for the World Fair of Montreal in 1967. But the electronics components of this time ( industrial automatisms, calculators ) were expensive. As for it, the realization of Meteor was quite cheaper because it could be based on the technology of the Microprocesseur S available in the Années 1990. Other software dedicated to the railway exploitation also was born a few years before such SACEM on the RER has (1988) or the KVB. Even if these various systems do not offer to the owners the possibility of an integral automation of their line, they allowed many projections as regards safety which were taken again mainly by the SAET.

The Parisian project

In addition to the technology which it constitutes, Meteor is also the name given by the RATP for the Ligne 14 of the subway of Paris (retro-acronym of East-West Subway Fast).

The goal of its construction was then double: to reduce the number of passengers borrowing the RER has between Auber and Châtelet - the Markets but also to make it possible to reach since the center of Paris the {{XIIe}} and {{XIIIe}} districts of Paris. It was open in October 1998.
