Metal for Muthas

Metal for Muthas is the name given to two albums compilations of heavy metal NWOBHM.

History of compilation

The first Metal for Muthas (Volume I), was published the December 15th 1979 and owes its celebrity with the fact that Iron Maiden presented two new titles to it, although the disc concealed also other groups having been a certain success. Following the success of its demonstration The Soundhouse Slaps with the club of the same name of Neal Kay, Iron Maiden had required to profit two days of studio to record its two titles and that one of them be the first title of the disc.

The success of the compilation, selected by Neal Kay, contributed to the launching of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, at the time of the decline of the Punk. In spite of criticisms divided, Metal for Muthas reached the 12th place of the charts and became even the base of a mini-round of the groups present on the album, with Iron Maiden at the head of poster. The group was narrowly implied in Sanctuary Records (éponyme of the title opening compilation), which is now a major label of the heavy metal.

The second compilation Metal for Muthas Volume II gathered it less outstanding artists and did not have same success.
