Metal GEAR Solid 4: Guns off the Patriots is a Video game of action-infiltration developed by Kojima Productions and envisaged with the second quarters 2008 on PlayStation 3. The play Co-is directed by Hideo Kojima and Shuyo Murata.

It is about the fourth episode of the series Metal GEAR Solid.

Synopsis

Whole or part of the history proceeds nine years after the incidental of Shadow Moses, in 2014. After the incidental of Manhattan of 2009, the military interventions in foreign countries were restricted, causing the emergence of military companies private (Private Military Compagny, PMC). The five more important PMC prove to be controlled by the same company mother, Outer Heaven. Having a reserve of mercenaries without equal and technological means advanced, the military power of Outer Heaven is colossal. With the ordering of this immense army, Liquid Ocelot account to continue the idealistic intentions of Big Boss and prepares to start an insurrection armed with the the Middle East. Patient and growing old, because infected by virus FOXDIE Solid Snake is the only one with being able to stop it. It will be its “last mission”…

Gameplay

Metal GEAR Solid 4: Guns off the Patriot proposes a new concept that Hideo Kojima introduced by the slogan “Nowhere where to hide” (“ No Places To Hide ”). The play takes seat in open environments which thus offer few hiding-places. According to Hideo Kojima, the traditional Gameplay of the series, which is based on the infiltration, for is not called as much in question. The player lays out from now on of more than choice in the realization of his objectives, and more or less can miser on the furtivity or frontal confrontations. Certain soldiers met on the battle field are a priori neither of the enemies nor of the allies, and it is the behavior of the player who should determine the nature of their relation. He could even be possible to create alliances with certain combatants, a little in the continuity of what Metal Solid GEAR proposes: Portable Ops .

Certain elements of gameplay were revealed during interviews or in the trailers presented at the time of the living rooms of the Electronic Entertainment Expo and the Tokyo Game Show.

Among the accessories, a new type of optical camouflage makes its appearance: the behavior “Octocamo”. To pass unperceived from the enemy, the combination of Snake can be melted in the decoration by reproducing textures and the colors of the immediate environment. The device requires to be held motionless to function.

The arsenal of the play is more realistic than in the preceding episodes and is largely flexible: addition of a grenade thrower, a sight tube, a laser aiming, a silencer, etc In addition, Solid Snake is seen from now on accompanied by a small robot, “Metal Mk GEAR. 2”, which is controlled remotely by Otacon. Mk. 2 makes it possible to the two men to communicate but can be also used to neutralize the guards by electrocuting them.

The system of close combat introduced into Metal GEAR Solid 3: Snake Eater , the “CQC” ( Close Quarter Fights ), is re-used. In addition, MGS4 proposes a free system of camera, already tested in Metal GEAR Solid 3: Subsistence .

A new type of enemy, Gekkou, also makes its appearance. Gekkou are biped robots, of less than one ten meters height, which act as mobile turrets of shootings but can also carry blows with their large legs. Produced in series, in fact powerful and nimble machines of war move in group and whose behavior returns to animal characteristics.

Hideo Kojima envisages to exploit the capacities of detection of movement of the Sixaxis. He also says to plan to use PSP as additional controller, in particular to direct Mk. 2. Metal GEAR Solid 4 does not propose mode of Online game, that finally being the subject of a play with whole, Metal GEAR Online , playable share via the PlayStation Network. Lastly, the play must be compatible with future Dual Shock 3, and thus support the vibrations.

History

2005

Hideo Kojima confirmed the development of Metal GEAR Solid 4 in March 2005 at the time of a press conference given to Berlin. This information came to contradict the idea according to which Metal GEAR Solid 3: Snake Eater enclosed trilogy MGS. At the time of this advertisement, Kojima was presented in the form of a producer of the play, Shuyo Murata, while being the new director.

In May 2005, at the time of the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) , a video first was presented to the press and the public. Of shifted and humorous nature, this one did not reflect of anything appearance or the contents play; the purpose of it was, on the one hand, to introduce the new concept of the play (“No Places to Hide”), on the other hand, to announce the return of Hideo Kojima as director of this episode (at the sides of Shuryo Murata).

The first true trailer card of the play was presented in September 2005 to the Japan, at the time of the Tokyo Game Show (TGS) . In an autoreferential style, it video exquisite new orientation of the play, more realistic. If the plays of the series Metal GEAR always treated war, and in particular of the Cold war, this episode is the first to be proceeded on a battle field. 2006

The second trailer card of the play was revealed in May 2006, at the time of the E3 to Los Angeles. The video confirms in image the return of characters emblematic of the series: Hall “Otacon” Emmerich, Colonel Roy Campbell, Liquid Ocelot, Naomi Hunter and Meryl Silverburgh. Raiden, hero discussed of the second episode, also makes an appearance noticed in the final sequence where it terrace successively twelve Gekkou under the figure - characteristic of the series - Ninja.

In September 2006, during the TGS, a video third reveals the first phases of play. A wide version of this trailer card (Extented Version) was also carried out.

2007

In June 2007, a new version of the trailer card of the E3 2006 was shown. This one turns on a more recent version of the Moteur of play and presents various technical improvements of order consequently.

In July 11th 2007, at the time of the Sony conference to the E3, Hideo Kojima is assembled on scene to present new a video of the play and to recall that it is about its last contribution to the series. The trailer card was the occasion to announce a simultaneous world exit Début 2008 but especially to reveal some elements moreover on the intrigue. A first scene puts forward the capacities of Liquid Ocelot, which can control the nanomachine S present in the soldiers. In the sequence, tens of people are suddenly in prey with a faintness of which all the section Foxhound, with except mysterious hooded character. Solid Snake, so affected, in vain tries to him to put out of cheek Liquid Ocelot. This one flees in a helicopter where Naomi Hunter is, however presented like a confidante of Snake. In a second scene, Vamp makes his return through a sanguinary combat against Raiden.

The July 17th 2007, at the time of Playstation First Vent with Tokyo, Hideo Kojima made a demonstration of its last production, lever in hand.

The September 20th 2007, at the time of the TGS (Tokyo Range Show) the visitors could in their turn test a demonstration of MGS4.

The American actor David Hayter lends once again his voice to the character of Solid Snake. Quinton Flynn, Paul Eiding and Christopher Randolph takes again the characters of Raiden respectively, Roy Campbell and of Hall “Otacon” Emmerich.
