Metal GEAR Solid 2: Sounds off Liberty (often shortened MGS2 ) is a Video game of action-infiltration directed by Hideo Kojima. The play was developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Japan and was published by Konami in November 2001 on PlayStation 2. It is about the fourth opus of the series Metal GEAR and of the direct continuation of Metal GEAR Solid .
Sons off Liberty was a public and critical success international, with more than 7 million specimens of play sold throughout the world. In 2002, a wide edition of the play, entitled Metal GEAR Solid 2: Substance , was marketed on PS2, Xbox and Windows. Metal GEAR Solid 4: Guns off the Patriots , currently under development, must constitute the direct continuation of it.

According to an anonymous source, a tanker in departure of New York would shelter a new Metal GEAR prototype developed by the US Navy. While Solid Snake infiltrates the tanker, with far its old enemy Revolver Ocelot observes the scene and is delighted by its arrival: “All occurs as envisaged”. A few minutes later, a group of spetsnaz makes irruption on the boat and takes control of it…
The history proceeds in XXIe century, the scenario is imaginary although it is based on many actual facts. The Cold war, the Nuclear weapon and the tanks tactical constitute the principal elements of them.
Metal GEAR Solid approached the process of the evolution from the point of view of the Génétique: the Cloning, the Natural selection. Metal GEAR Solid 2 continues the reflection but the evolution is this time under consideration from the cultural point of view and in particular of the Mémétique. The handling illustrated by the history did not thus attract any more with the Gènes but with the Even S. the play raises the question of the role of the digital processing of the Information about the evolution. In addition, the scenario treats philosophical questions relating to the Liberté, in particular the concept of free will, and a parallel with the ludic action draws some.
The history of the play proceeds in two distinct phases. The first with Solid Snake in 2007, which must infiltrate a Tanker Navy. The second phase, in 2009, reveals a new playable character: Raiden, more dynamics, younger than Snake. It infiltrates by the way of water on a maritime platform, the Big Shell, taken by storm a few hours earlier by a terrorist group.

But shortly after its arrival, a group of Spetsnaz invests of force the boat and takes control of it. Sergei Gurlukovich, a colonel of GRU, directs the operations associated with Revolver Ocelot. On the bridge, Snake affonte Olga, the girl of Gurlukovich (which is pregnant) and leaves it unconscious. After having reached the câles, Snake discovers the new Metal prototype GEAR, a version amphibian called Metal GEAR RAY. It then attends the treason of Ocelot which kills Gurlukovic to seize Metal GEAR. When Snake tries to interpose, Ocelot failed one moment and its personality is “parasitized” by that of Liquid Snake, of which it had been done grafted the arm after the events of Shadow Moses. Liquid Snake seems to promise a revenge with Snake. It makes run the tanker and disappears with Metal GEAR. In its escape, Ocelot - which has took again its spirits - contacts the president of the the United States to indicate to him that the mission proceeded perfectly.
Left for death, Solid Snake will be officially held responsible for the ecological catastrophe supposément generated by the shipwreck of the tanker. Metal GEAR Solid 2: Sounds off Liberty is often regarded as a major work in the Histoire of the video games. There is before and after MGS2. The final sequence déploit thus its range heavily metaphysical in connection with civilization and of his conflict report/ratio to freedom. “ The Sons off Liberty ” (in French, “Wire of Freedom”) is the name of the bunch which aims at the destruction of the Patriotes, a secret capacity controlling and bringing its knowledge to the world and determining its evolution at the same time. Is it necessary to destroy all this science as from the moment when it is especially an instrument of being able? Is it necessary on the contrary to accept it and consider freedom within the limits of an immutable context? Some want it total, daring chaos inherent in a true revolution (one thinks here at the end of Escape from L.A. where another Snake returned in fine humanity to the Stone Age). Others are satisfied with a release on probation.
Kojima seems to lean for this second option, certainly because it seems to him best to summarize than is a video game: the random one in spite of enfermement of the player in preliminary codes and calculations.
