Mestre Bimba

Mestre Bimba for the registry office Manual back Reis Machado (born the November 23rd 1900 in the " bairro C Engenho velho" (district of the Old Mill) with El Salvador (Bahia) with the Brésil, deceased on February 15th 1974) is one of most famous Brazilian capoerists the; he is the father of the Capoeira " régionale".

Its nickname, Bimba (word familiar indicating the penis of a child), would come to him from a bet held between his/her mother, Dona Martinha C Bomfim, of Amerindian blood, persuaded to await a girl, and the wise woman for whom the child to come was to be a boy. Having been confined the child, this one would have exclaimed: " I won my bet, this rascal has all that it is necessary! ". His/her father, Shine Cândido Machado, former slave, was a Master of famous Batuque.

In 1928, Mestre Bimba creates the regional Capoeira which it describes itself as true very complete fight, a mixture of batuque and of will capoeira Angola added with some blows. For Muniz Sodré, Brazilian author and former disciple of the Master, Bimba did not change really the spirit of will capoeira of the time but fitted on the contrary in the tradition of the circle of the old Masters bahianais by redynamisant an aspect of will capoeira which seemed to disappear in the area from Bahia, i.e. a style of more objective combat such as practiced it other Masters angoleiros like Waldemar da Paixão, Onça Preta and well others.

June 12th, 1996, the Federal University of Bahia decreed the honorary title of Doctor Honoris causa in Manoel back Reis Machado, Noir illétré, died twenty-two years before.
