Mesnuls
Mesnuls is a common French, located in the department of the Yvelines and the area Île-de-France.
Its inhabitants is called the Mesnulois .
Geography
The commune is located at the north-eastern end of the main forest of Rambouillet to 26 kilometers in the west of Versailles and to 16 kilometers in the north of Rambouillet. The center-village itself, with its some trade and its a little offset town hall, is gathered around the church and majestic a gone of limes paved leads to the châtelet of entry of the castle. An important part of the habitat extends towards the east on a wooded buttress which is next to the commune of Saint-Rémy-the Honore. The hamlet of Millière is a residential locality, towards south-west, in the middle of the forest of Rambouillet.The communes bordering are Bazoches-on-Guyonne north in the North-East, Saint-Rémy-the Honore in the east, the Breviaries in the south, Saint-Leger-in-Yvelines in the west and Montfort-l' Amaury in the extreme North-West.
The commune is crossed according to a North-South axis by the secondary road 191 which leads to Mareil-le-Guyon and the valley of the Mauldre towards north and to the Perray-in-Yvelines towards the south. With a crossroads with this RD191, in the north of the village, the secondary road starts 155 which leads to Montfort-l' Amaury towards the east.
In the railway plan, the stations the closest SNCF are the Gare of Montfort-l' Amaury - Mother towards north and the Gare of the Essarts-the-King towards south-east.
History
The commune was called formerly “Mesnil” then “Mesnils”, term derived from Latin mansionile meaning “dwelling”.At the time Roman a North-South directed Roman way and connecting Chartres to Beauvais crossed the current communal territory, a terminal was found by it with the hamlet of Millière. In 1964, in fact the ruins of a Gallo-Roman villa are updated, always with Millière, on a slope of the valley of Guyonne, with the locality “the wood of Mareil”. One in particular found there a fresco dist “four seasons”, dating from Ier and IIe centuries after J. - C.
The later history of the village is related to that of the castle, built in the beginning, about 1530, by Christophe of Refuge, gentleman of François 1st. Several owners then followed one another there, of which the count de Maupeau at the XVIIIe century.
The church has relics of Sainte Veronique transferred from Lyon in 1856.
During the Revolution, the vault Our-Lady-of-Oak, built originally by Amaury de Montfort is destroyed. It was rebuilt in 1825 on subscription.
