Mesnard-la-Barotière is a common French, located in the department of the the Vendée and the area Pays of the Loire.

Origin of the name: Barroteau patronym, lords of the place in XIIe century; at the XVIIe century, the new lords are Mesnard; it is into 1768 that their name is added to that of Barotière.
Barotière, known as of XIIe century, was the residence of the local lords, Barroteau then Mesnard at the XVIIe century. Old castle, destroyed during the Revolution, only remain an old woman tower out of brick and a building of commun runs contiguous to the vault. In 1766, the count Alexandre Bonaventure, lord of Barotière, obtains by letter patent of the king that the ground of Barotière is set up in county of Mesnard. The commune has two churches on its territory. The old church of XIIe and XIVe centuries, abandoned at the XIXe century, found a new life since recent discovered mural frescos entirely given to the day. The second built at the end of the XIXe century, on the private funds of the count de Mesnard, is the symbol of the influence of this family on the commune throughout the XIXe century and at the beginning of the XXe century. Today, the city, primarily agricultural, sees also its future in tourism, with the installation of the base of leisures of the lake of the Cheating.
