LORDS OF MESMONTIn 1639, Godefroy de Romance, lord of Attenhoven, buy the seigniory of Mesmont to his/her uncle Hugues de Villelongue (known as Mr. de Mesmon, lord of Mesmon and Eschelle, ordinary rider of the Large royal Stable) and take possession of the castle. The oldest parts, currently remaining after the fire which devastated the castle during the First World War, are the square tower (known as tower Henry IV), the commun runs Louis XIII, the vault of the porch of entry out of bricks and its stone base preceded by a bridge levis making following the dormant bridge crossing the ditches girdling the castle. One notices among the whole of the home rebuilt after the war a 1914-18 beautiful round tower built out of stones surmounted by walls of bricks laid out out of decorative apparatus.
Germain Hyacinthe de Romance was born in Paris on November 23rd, 1745, Marquis of Mesmon-in-Porcien (auj. Mesmont, the Ardennes), and third marquis of Lovesong. Initially page of the Large Stable, he became officer with the French Guards and, the day before the Revolution, it had the rank of lieutenant colonel. Emigrant, it saw himself to entrust the avant-garde of the army of the Princes with the rank of general major. Bench thereafter to Hamburg, it led a life of editor and of critic and was there even imprisoned during one month in August 1800. Passed to Russia, it became adviser of State there and commander about Holy-Anne. Of return in France under the Restoration, it was named in 1817 minister of France near the court of Denmark. Become blind man, it died in Neuilly on March 2nd, 1831 and was buried with the Mount-Valérien. One must still with the marquis de Mesmon several political and military works. Freemason, it belonged in 1782 to the cabin of Saint-Jean-D' Scotland of the Contract social.

Order to leave Versailles and not to appear more there until new order under penalty of disobedience notified to the marquis de Mesmon (August 29th, 1780), permission given by Louis XVI with same of going where good will seem to him (Marly, October 23rd, 1780), order given to same by Louis XVI to withdraw itself in its ground of Champagne Mesmon and defending to him to reside in any other place (November 4th, 1780).
