Merwede news

The New Merwede (in Dutch: Nieuwe Merwede ) is a Rivière Dutchwoman which forms part of the border between the Brabant-Septentrional and the Holland-Southerner. The Merwede News has a 20 km length.

It is located between the Biesbosch and the island of Dordrecht and runs towards south-west. Close to Werkendam, the higher Merwede is divided today into two branches: the lower Merwede and the Merwede News. This river was dug between 1861 and 1874, in order to more quickly evacuate the great quantities of water of the Merwede and the Waal. Today, the Merwede News kept the character of an important river, but the majority of the water of the delta of the the Rhine pass by the Nieuwe Waterweg to Rotterdam.

Close to Lage Zwaluwe is the Confluent Merwede News and Amer, continuation current of the Meuse. From this confluence is born the Hollands Diep.

The Merwede News knows neither Pont nor tunnel. There is a connection by vat between Kop van 'T Land (common of Werkendam) and Dubbeldam (common of Dordrecht).
