Mersin

Mersin is a town of Turkey, Préfecture of the Province of the same name (old province of İçel), located at the edge of the Mediterranean; 2,275,928 inhabitants. Port. Refining of oil.

Müfide İlhan was there the first woman mayor of Turkey, of 1950 with 1951.

The old provinces of Mersin (created in 1924) and of İçel amalgamated in 1933 under the name of province of İçel, which took again the name of province of Mersin in 2002.
