Mersebourg
Mersebourg is a city in the south of the Saxony-Anhalt in the district of Mersebourg-Querfurt.
Thietmar de Merseburg ( Dietmar ) (975 - 1018) was bishop who opposed the Poland. The cathedral with Mersebourg was devoted in 1021 in the presence of the emperor Henry II.
During the terrible war of 1914-1918, a principal camp of prisoners was open there on September 25th, 1914. This camp received the visit of the Spanish delegates on March 15th, 1916, on May 9th, 1916 (on this date, there are 5.559 prisoners inside the camp, including 3.139 French, and 18.115 prisoners divided in detachments of work, including 9.433 French), another visit on September 18th, 1916, continued September 21st and 22nd, by the visit of the workshops and detachments, then another visit on February 19th, 1917, on this date, there are 26.922 prisoners on the whole, including 21.189 distributed in detachments of work, the French are, 10.554 soldiers and 88 civilians in the detachments, and 3.026 soldiers and 48 civilians inside the camp work in the detachments is very varied: mines, agriculture, marsh, etc
