Mersch
Mersch is a Luxembourg locality and chief town of the commune bearing the same name. It is located in the canton of Mersch of which it is also the chief town.
Located in the valley of the Alzette the locality is found with the confluence of the rivers Mamer and Eisch with the " river nationale".
Church
The church Michel saint is built in the middle of the 19th century in the traditional style néo.The frescos of the chorus go back to 1936
Castle
The first lord of Mersch, Theodoric sets up a first strong castle in 1232.He is taken by storm by the Burgundian and set fire to troops.
In 1574, Paul Von der Veltz transforms the medieval masonry into a comfortable castle: the keep is provided in particular with large windows.
In 1603, during the disorders caused by the conflict between the king of Spain (who was also duke of Luxembourg) and the Spanish Netherlands, the castle is again burnt.
At the end of the 17th century, the count Jean Frederic d' Autel makes rebuild the castle in his actual position.
In 1930, the owner, Mr. Uhres undertake a restoration and in 1938, an inn of youth is installed in a new, adjacent masonry with the castle.
The commune becomes owner of the castle in 1957. Three and in 1988 it installs its administration there.
